About the Namasté Yoga Teacher Training
At Namasté we view the ancient path of Yoga as one
of the many doorways to accessing deeper levels of
being in our relationship with ourselves, others and
the sacred. Whether you are interested in deepening
your own practice or you feel the call to serve, the
journey of becoming a Namasté Yoga Teacher is one
of transformation and self-discovery. At Namasté we
honor the vastness of all yogic and spiritual traditions
in order to provide the student with a rich and wide
body of knowledge, both experientially and intellectually.
The Namasté Yoga Teacher Training Course is
a comprehensive 200 hour program grounded in the
rich roots of authentic Yoga, therapeutic
Mind-Body approaches and contemporary science. Steeped in the ancient philosophy and practice of Vedic, Classical, and Hatha Yoga, the Namasté approach to asana
seeks to develop insight within asana practice to
uncover a deeper awareness of ones true nature
through mindfulness and the engagement of witness consciousness or self-inquiry. We
view the body as a mirror of the mind and explore
how the mind is expressed in the body. Without
this inquiry into the nature of the mind, Yoga asana
becomes merely exercise. The practice of asana
steeped in mindfulness practices can teach us how
to discipline our mind and cease reacting to the world
in our usual habitual ways. Therein we can begin to
cease the patterns of karma which create suffering.
As we begin to cultivate a disciplined mind we begin
to cultivate right attitude and in turn become a place
of compassionate refuge for ourselves and others.
Namasté asana includes a combination of vinyasa
- mindful flowing sequences, long, still, alignment
& inquiry based asana, and restful asanas where
individual poses are held, isolated and studied, to
understand our deeper nature. The Namasté
approach to contemplative practices focuses on the
internal practices of stilling the mind through ˝ hour
to 2 hour chanting, pranayama and sitting meditation,
in addition to meditation in action. The ancient
wisdom traditions teach that in order for one to know
self-realization one must be steadfast in the state of
meditation at all times, with devotion and humility.
The great paradox is that meditation is not something
we ‘do’ - it is the essence of who we are.
In addition to philosophical and therapeutic practices
students will gain an introductory understanding of
Functional Anatomy. Students will leave the training fully
prepared to teach in a way that speaks to their uniqueness
whether it be vinyasa, alignment based, or gentle
restorative asana classes or pranayama & meditation
classes. Students will acquire the confidence to communicate
the practice of Yoga to others with the highest level
of integrity while honoring their own unique voice. The
Namasté training program will culminate in an experience
that is transformational on every level: physical, emotional,
mental, and spiritual.
Upon completion of the 200 hour course, students will receive their Namasté Yoga Teacher Certification. Those interested in receiving the practitioner level of Yoga Therapy will be required to continue with additional modules of training. More information about the Yoga Therapy program will be available over the next few months.
Does Namasté have specific requirements on how long a student has been practicing Yoga for the Yoga Teacher Training?
We believe that it is not how long one has practiced Yoga in whatever form they have. Instead, we look for how one is in one’s life. One may have practiced Yoga for a month and if they can show the how of their life in words or actions then we will consider the journey with them.
"Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without." - Buddha
What does Namasté look for in accepting a student into its training programs?
We shall not cease
from exploration,
And the end of all
our exploring,
Will be to arrive
where we started,
And know the place
for the first time.
-T.S. Eliot
We look for those in which we can learn with - those that value a beginner's mind. Once we can empty ourselves, a beginner’s mind unfolds in which true learning can take place for all. At Namasté we are here to create a space which allows our students to nurture the empty space within, which in turn allows one to become a container or foundation of listening, healing and refuge.
Why Namasté?
At Namasté we live our core values and mission. Students can choose from a variety of training programs around the country, and we encourage potential students to explore each organizations values and missions to discover which resonate most deeply.
